How To Fix Printer Error 21 : Print Overrun

HP and other Printers have a lot of little basic bugs, but if you know how to deal with some of the more habitual problems you will be able to make your printer your friendly companion to your tasks and projects.

Error code 21 Problem: " Print Overrun " error message

Possible Causes and solutions:
  • The print job is to complex. Simplify the job by removing font changes etc. On the III, IIID, IIIP, enable page protect if you have and additional 1 MB of memory installed.
  • On the 4/4M/4+ and 5: The print job is to complex, enable page protect from the control panel and from the software. You may need additional memory.
  • 4L Same thing with to much data or the page is to complex. Simplify the print job. Turn the image adapt and page protect to ON or AUTO either from the control panel or from within HP Explorers Remote Control Panel.
  • 5P/5Si Same as above, Press GO to resume printing.
  •   Windows XP, click Start and then click Control Panel. Click Printers And Other Hardware and Printers And Faxes. In the Printers And Faxes window, from the File menu, click Server Properties, then click the Drivers tab. This shows the settings in your printer's driver. Compare the settings in this dialog box with the ideal settings in your printer's manual. If you see a discrepancy in these settings, the printer may simply need a new driver and delete old one. You can download printer drivers from the printer manufacturer's Web site.

  • Get more help. Installing a new driver won't solve every printer woe, of course, so understanding Windows' built-in Help system will give you an even sharper troubleshooting edge.
  • Download fixing software from Microsoft  http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/
